by Nils on April 26, 2008, 03:52:00 PMAs the costs of the ATF program was rising astronomically, neither the F-22 nor the F-23 would seem likely to be built in enough numbers to fully replace the F-15. To cope with this problem, Boeing teamed up with Northrop-Grumman to develop a new version of its F-15 Eagle fighter. It features a new front mounted LERX, and a radical new tailless design. The F-15 MANX first flew in 1996 and was meant to fly alongside the newly acquired F-22A. This was the first variant of the F-15 to be multirole, as the F-15C was a pure A2A, and the E was an A2G fighter. In the MANX both type's strong points were combined to make the MANX a true multirole fighter.

Transall AC-160
After the hard-won French victory over the Viet Minh in the 1950s the power struggle between France and China led to the formation of various ethnic states each trying to curry favour with either or both. This led to a long period of instability, with insurgencies rising in many areas. Neither regional superpower could afford to enforce peace everywhere, at least not at the risk of all out war.

by MartG on January 14, 2008, 11:05:00 AMAfter the cancellation of the F.155 interceptor programs following the 1957 Defence White Paper, the allegedly ‘accidental’ overflight of the UK by a Soviet bomber led to panic in Government circles, and a call was made for the immediate strengthening of air defences around 'the seat of government' against high level/high speed threats which posed severe interception problems for the existing Javelin and Meteor night fighters - cynics saw this as the politicians who had rendered the country open to attack wanting themselves to be protected first.
