Oh no, you guys have got me thinking. How 'bout altering the "saucer" portion to be other than perfectly round?
Here's a quick sketch of a couple of potential designs. It could be like a midpoint b/w the true saucerplane design and that early "Stealth" model from Testors way back when. Like an exaggeration of that F-19 concept.

In fact......PING (lightbulb)........watch this space.........
Edit: Here we go: quickest rough profile I've ever done. These are actually Skylancers, not Skyrays, but you get the idea.....
(And yes, I know it wouldn't be as simple as that in practice, but the principle's there.)

... just found some plastic dished plates in the local Woolworth store which would make for an ideal saucer, hmm..methinks a wander into the pound shop might yield some suitable shapes too!
