Striking presentation of a true classic, Frank. I have so far avoided making the effort to learn the arcane
skills that made this possible, but I'm increasingly tempted to start up the learning curve...You've probably
already seen this, as I'm pretty sure I've posted it at SSM once or twice, but its a terrific source of Saucer
images from book covers, comics and films-

Craig, I had not seen that link - some great artwork in there! A saucer shape is a great way to start in 3D modeling.
Something like an Adamski saucer would be a good start - relatively simple shapes but still challenging without being frustrating.

Oooooooh! Neat topic.
I actually have the Testor "Bob Lazar/S4 UFO" model kit that I bought long, long ago. Maybe after my Habbakuk is done, I might start on that just to get away from ships for awhile. I was thinking of a military/warehouse hangar diorama and use the mini figures and control station from a Space:1999 moonbase kit that I have to detail the hangar.

I hate building "OOB" (straight) from the box. Modeling isn't just about how good the gluing or painting, etc. looks. It's also about how creative and imaginative you can be with a subject.

The sucky part of that Testor's kit is a lack of a display stand and that is one kit that really needs to have something to perch it on. Otherwise you have to go searching for something suitable like the ID4 Alien Attacker display stand which works well for both kits.

True. Eventually, I'll think of something.
