Thanks to PanzerWulff link, I have ordered then received a brand new (mid-2008) P-51 eggplane (see below picture on the box, cute...).
Well, an egg-plane is not what-if "enough" for me, and I am going to what-if it further...
Of course, as twin-boom crazy one, I could buy a second box of the same, to make a Twin-Egg-Mustang. I wish someone will do it, but I won't. (As I have so many unbuilt boxes to build, buying a new box is a guilt for me - I prefer helping my boor family in law in the Philippines, while... for the P-51 profile topic following my Virtual Mustangs book, I needed badly the 2-view drawing in that box, but only one box of it...).
Well, how to what-if a single P-51? According to my favorite use, I will discard undercarriage, blades, pilot, exhaust pipes, with putty on the spinner and nose air intake, into a glider... That is my project. Crazy yes indeed... Grin
Maybe I will install only the port tailplane to add a little asymmetry, I will see.

The P-51D egg and GP-51D project have their profiles so presented in the topic

Hehehe, only Tophe could come up the concept of 'adding asymmetry'!  cheesy Grin

An egg-Twin-Mustang is already featured at http://www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php/topic,23826.15.html

Glider fighter, looking forward to this!  Like Panzer, got to kick my own arse into gear on this one.

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Sorry this will not be a fighter-killer but a shelf object reminding gliders... My other (not egg) Mustangs will be gliders as well, just for elegance without propellers nor undercarriage...
I am late, as I spent this week-end visiting relatives, but I hope this Glidstang will be finished at the end of May.

Sounds great either way Tophe!  I know you like rocket powered aircraft too, is this for the sleek looks you get with props or jet intakes removed?

uh, yes or no. Removing air-intakes is a so big work that I seldom do it. And for the Mustang, it is like a pleasant mouth (of the bird dog, with eye/canopy), no problem. But, yes I prefer a sleek elegant look rather than a noisy oily mechanical machine. But the main point is that I discard guns, being a crazy pacifist (but let us not talk politics here, this would introduce anger and shouting)...

Close to the end...
I have cured the nose-down tendancy with twin-wheels (fixed) at last, while standing on the belly scoop. I like it like that, and this is truly a what-if step further than Hasegawa Grin

On this view are better featured:
- the little asymmetry
- the 2 eyes "canopy" (I mean : "face of the chick", coming from the egg)
