That Aerius looks interesting.  Along the same lines, I have often wondered how a manned Global Hawk would look.

Below is what I believe to be the original version of the cartoon that shows some more variations of the theme. Once you enter that kind of territory though you're not very far from Bruce McCall's flying WWII contraptions...

Thanks a lot Martin, your link is delicious and the picture you add also. I will include part of this in my twin-boom 1939-45 what-if topic, thanks again!

That's exactly what it is!!! I've actually shortened the fuselage and all three fins, but it is an Altair indeed, with a B-2's cockpit. Congrats on your sharp eye!

JazzTime,

in addition to real planes, this thread has some creative illustrations along your original line of thought (be sure to check all pages): http://www.flightsimworld.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=106710

Martin, most of them (or all of them) come from http://www.cardatabase.net/modifiedairlinerphotos/index.main?type=Fake
(in the search engine, replace All enhancement by Fake plane)

Stargazer, I love your Jet-Tigercat, I am going to post a twin of it on my twin-boom topic, but please, please, could you make a mix piston+jet (piston port, jet starboard, or opposite), asymmetric for a very good reason: the piston engine is for cruise saving fuel, the jet is for short take off and a dash at high speed... No?

Thanks. My jet Tigercat, as you call it, is simply obtained by mating Me 262 wings to a Tigercat fuselage.
Here is a rare 1946 photograph depicting one of the two XTS2F-1 prototypes.
