Tophe, the vertical windscreen has the same shape as the C.460 racer. It's only the frames that I partially removed to make it look more modern (don't forget this was the mid-1930s, though).

After working on an array of projects, Northrop came up with the P-600 Cobra, which was evaluated by both the Air Force and the Navy as the YF-17A and became the prototype for the highly successful F-18 Hornet. A less known chapter of the Hornet history was Northrop's attempt at promoting a single-engine, simplified variant for the international markets as the P-700 Adder. Costing almost half of the Cobra, it became affordable to many developing countries as a cheap yet capable last generation fighter. The US Congress, however, voted for a ban of Adder exports, fearing that such a desirable and affordable aircraft might offset the military balance of some unstable third world zones (the same which, incidentally, ended up procuring reconditioned second- or third-hand MiG-21 fighters...).

Attached is the Cobra picture I used as a basis.

Thanks Stéphane, I found the C.460 three-view at http://richard.ferriere.free.fr/3vues/caudron_c460_3v.jpg confirming my guess of a v-shape (from above) sharp windscreen, even if vertical on side view.

Your Northrop single-engined is wonderdul Wub ... and would have been very possible. Take that as congratulations Thumbs Up : I know you love very-possible ones... Grin

Thank you so much,ysi_maniac and Tophe!

Here's the next Northrop proposal, which was only remotely based on the P-700: The Northrop P-800 Viper UCAV (though they were not YET called thus...).

Picture used as basis was of course the same one as above...

Neat  smiley So what kind of inlet(s) are hiding under the Adder? Single chin-style like the F-16 or two under the LERX kinda like the F-5?

The Viper UAV is pleasant, and so convincing for buyers... Stargazer, you should have been seller! and not only of paper-planes as all these photographs prove those are actually "built & flown machines", number one!

The XC-106 is awesomely realistic, but what was the scource piccie? A Bobcat perhaps, and you slid the wings to to the top, plus other stuff as well?

huh Stéphane, are you sure this is a what-if fake photograph? This airplane looks so normal, so perfect, it must be true! (or else: take it as congratulations for a perfect faking job Grin )

Thanks folks! Actually I used two different aircraft by Cessna, in exactly the same angle, and a background that used to have a Beech C-45 on it... The two aircraft are now attached to the initial message. You'll see clearly why they seem to blend so naturally, they have quite a lot in common!

Actually not: just realised I left the moving blade tip of the Bobcat underneath the cockpit... Will have to edit that!

There were other interpretations: paint-work on the fuselage, etc. But with the source, the "true" explanation is more convincing, yes. Well, I correct: not "perfect" Thumbs Up Thumbs Up but "very good" Thumbs Up ...

Stephane,

What's your 'basis 2' aircraft please? I don't think I've seen one before, it looks like a cross between a DC-5 and a DH Flamingo.
